📘 Curriculum Planning

The Institute positions itself with four core orientations: strengthening oceanic cultural research, cultivating oceanic cultural talent, promoting oceanic cultural awareness, and advancing the oceanic cultural industry. Correspondingly, it upholds four educational goals: 1. Academic research in oceanic culture, 2. Promotion of oceanic cultural awareness, 3. Participation in social and cultural innovation, 4. Engagement in the R&D of oceanic cultural industries.

Based on the above positioning and objectives, the Institute has developed a curriculum framework structured around three major academic clusters: Oceanic Cultural History, Oceanic Literature, and Oceanic Social Sciences. These clusters are designed to support both theoretical cultural research and practical industry development, while pioneering new academic frontiers with distinct oceanic characteristics.

Curriculum Cluster Primary Focus Talent Development Direction
Oceanic Cultural History Foundational research and historical frameworks of oceanic culture Training fundamental oceanic cultural researchers and interdisciplinary academic professionals
Oceanic Literature Ocean writing, fishermen’s literature, maritime narrative studies Training oceanic literature researchers, local culture promoters, and arts and humanities educators
Oceanic Social Sciences Maritime society, fishermen communities, cultural industries, policy, and development Training oceanic cultural builders, industry strategists, and cultural policy practitioners

The overall characteristic of the three curriculum clusters lies in their commitment to conducting a comprehensive, holistic, and pluralistic study of oceanic culture, ensuring equal attention to both cultural theory construction and creative industry practices. The Institute also aims to integrate academic cultivation with industry talent training, fostering a new field that embodies distinctive oceanic features and expanding the boundaries of cultural research and cultural industries alike.

Furthermore, the curriculum hopes to balance the nurturing of cultural researchers and cultural industry professionals, pioneering a new academic territory uniquely defined by its maritime and oceanic identity, while opening new creative and practical avenues for the future of Taiwan’s ocean humanities and cultural industries.
